Brussels under attack!

This morning, about one and a half hours ago, two explosions shook the departure hall of Brussels Airport. Half an hour ago, reports came in that a metro station near the Rue de la Loi was also bombed.

There are confirmed casualties, although no numbers have been conclusively stated.

All air traffic bound for Brussels has been diverted and trains and roads to and from the airport shut down.

Terror level has gone from 3 to 4 (max level).

UPDATE: It appears 10 were killed in the metro attack and 11 at the airport. Brussels is in lockdown.

I bet people will forget about it tomorrow even that 21 people died just because Brussels in not popular enough, if this happened in Paris everyone would be covered in French flags on facebook.

True, there were many bigger atrocites but no one gives a f... and that makes me angry.

I don't say that im not fretted about this attack - i am, very much.
Stay strong Battleaxe.

Current casualties at 34 killed, 180+ wounded.

I'm fine, but angry. The more information comes out, the bigger my "axe to grind" becomes. No pun, nor fun intended.

I must imagine the anger and sadness, of not you only, but most of European countries who must deal with these types of situation. It is really not fair, I am really sorry for the innocent families who have been caught up with these attacks.

Europe is in "What do I do next" situation pretty much. Pretty much only country this happens is France. Belgium war arresting terrorists in the past few days, even those who were involved in Paris attacks, that's why that probably happened.

I'm sure that Europe is near war. As an European myself I'm scared.

I am so sorry th_battleaxe, I can't imagine what it must be like to have this committed in your own city :( My thoughts are with the people of Belgium, and with the peoples of Pakistan and Turkey for the horrendous losses they have suffered, though they may not get the same kind of press the Brussels attacks do.

Although it was bad, I would have felt even worse, would it actually have happened in my city. I live about 15 miles north of Brussels, and I don't actually like Brussels all that much.

That being said, what I currently am still mad about, is the lethargic response from the Brussels authorities. Not to the attacks, but the underlying problems. Brussels is not one city, it's a conglomerate of 19 communities or districts. It is its own region, with its own government. It also has 6 (!) police zones. And to make it all worse, the intricate language laws allow every major political party in the country to run for office in Brussels. In recent times, this has always been a Walloon, and practically all were form the Partie Socialiste.

Now that last statement does not mean I'm a right-wing halfwit who says every Red is bad, but the PS seems to be the biggest collection of power hungry cronies in Western Europe. And they are also extremely ignorant of every event that might put them or their rule in an awkward position.
Example: the guy who blew himself up in the metro, shouldn't even have been free, he should have been in prison for an armed robbery in 2010, during which he shot at the police with an AK-47. At the time, the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Moreaux (PS) waved the incident off as a "faits divers".

Now, the politicians in Brussels are furiously opposing the unification of the 6 police zones, leaving even more time and leeway to potential terrorists.

And THAT really grinds my gears.
