Just a few days ago, Samuel Willenberg, the last survivor of the Treblinka extermination camp, passed away. He survived the camp when he escaped with around 300 other prisoners in August 1943; of the three hundred, more than two hundred were summarily executed by the SS during the subsequent manhunt. It is a reminder that the horrors of WW2 are still in living memory, but that in a matter of years, well within our lifetimes, the last remaining WW2 survivor will have passed away. Lest we forget.
