  • Please no kill messages, if you want it to be realistic then kill messages isn't the way to go. One of the only flaws with Darkest hour was kill messages that and no 3d voice

  • No ranking system, it brings kiddies wanting to play for kills not to use teamwork and assualt objectives.

  • No killstreaks please! Like recon planes etc. If recon planes are added in then isn't it best for the planes to be piloted by an actual player so that he can feed in targets to the ground himself.

  • A proper ww2 rifle section layout. This consisted of 10 people 1 Cpl (The section leader) He would normally carry a SMG if im not mistaken. A L/Cpl (2nd in command of the section) Not overly sure on what he would carry but im presuming the same as the IC. 6 Pte's with Lee en fields. 1 Bren gunner + Loader. Not sure where the AT troop fit in but it wasn't within a rifle section.

  • After looking over a few threads about a map, i was thinking only Section IC's and possibly 2IC's would have had one. This wouldn't work within a game because people need to get to know the map. During ww2 the soldiers would have studied the terrain they were about to assualt. So why don't you have a map similar to Resistance and liberation? The IC can see all squad/section members the section members can only see the IC + 2IC. Then add on to it. The 2IC can see all in his 5 man fireteam and the IC. Then further make the game feel more realistic IC's get a detailed map where all objectives and secondary objectives are located. The 2IC can see where all main objectives are located and secondary objectives within a certain distance from him. Then the rest of the section can see all objectives within a limited distance radius. Also there must be a CO of the platoon on the battleground somewhere? The CO can see all objectives and where all of the IC's are located.

  • proximity voice chat. This is a must have for realism RnL does it fairly well but the game misses an important factor, there used to be radio men in ww2. Maybe implement a radio man into each section so he can relay whats going on with other radio men who can then give the information to the IC and CO.

How to do squad layouts has been something we've spoken about as a team before. The idea of having realistic squads is good, but unsure how to implement it for gameplay. We probably won't have loaders for MGs, as it would be near impossible to get people to do that, and of course animation would not exist (you'd just by lying there ingame next to the MG gunner). Also, to correct you a bit, the ASL would have a normal rifle, plus 1 of the riflemen would be a designated marksman (no scope, just the best shooter in the squad) and another would be a bomber with a cup launcher.

The rifle section given on wiki is modern, not WW2 era. My source is British Military Drill Handbook on rifle sections.

Also, one idea to keep squad cohesion is def to have each player carrying mags/belts for MGs. IRL they did (British doctrine was every man carried 2-3 mags, and German doctrine was supposed to be that every man carry a box of ammo at least), so it would be useful to give the MG gunner only what he and his crew would carry, and any other ammo having to be supplied by the squad.

Ah, i think you missed out a part "The "Rifle Section" of the Second World War was formed of 10 men; a Corporal as the section leader with six privates with Lee Enfield rifles forming a rifle group, and a light machine gun group of a Lance-corporal, a gunner with the Bren gun and a "loader" carrying a spare barrel and extra ammunition." But this could easily be wrong. Also yeah getting each man to carry a few mags would definitely improve teamwork. Also have you guys tried adding a weight system, i hate games which let a player run at the same speed without tiring quicker, running slower, or even passing out, like on ace in arma 2.

Yes, I saw that part, but it doesn't add much. It doesn't denote the actual roles of each man in the squad. The LCp was the squad ASL, and stayed with the Bren. The 6 man Rifle fireteam included the desig. marksman and the grenadier.

The full strength of a British Section was 10 men, and typically it would of been laid out like so.

1 Section.

X1 Bren Gunner
X2 NCO's
x7 Riflemen

and they would of been split between a gun group, e.g. (Lance Corporal, Bren Gunner, Assistant Gunner) and Rifle Group (Corporal, Six Riflemen).

In regards to the PIAT gunners, they were available to a company or platoon, and allocated to sections as required depending on the circumstances.

And again in regards to what the LCpl would carry, that would be based on what group he would be assigned too. Commonly though the LCpl carried a Le Enfield.
