A question about economics.

It's a great thing that a group of people will dedicate their free-time to develop a game and share it with anyone, but I just wonder how the team will cover the costs of running/maintaining/upgrading servers and effective in-game moderation? I ask because I have no clue, how an impressive project like this can be undertaken without any financial backing.

People could buy their own dedicated game servers, all the Traction Wars team would need is to host a master server

They will have to rely on donations, selling merchandise or their own pocket money eventually. Servers, website, and other costs will have to be payed somehow.
