Following the success of the team’s visit to TankFest last year, this past weekend eight members of the team returned for another slice of the action.

The day started out in typical English fashion - with a heavy downpour of rain - but undeterred we put our best (soggy) foot forward and set out into the event. On a brighter note this added an additional layer of realism to the reenactors and tanks, with their very real layer of mud.

The morning display kicked off with three Leopard II tanks performing a thunderous display, appropriately titled “Shock & Awe”. As "Du Hast" blared out the PA, the ground literally shook as they sped round the arena.

Taking a break from WWII and contemporary armour we visited the museum’s exhibit on the inception of the tank in WWI. It was hard to imagine what it must have been like for the occupants in the sweltering, cramped machine; not to mention how the enemy must have felt as a tank slowly crawled towards them, having never seen anything like it before.

Returning to all important “research” we took the opportunity to talk with various re-enacting groups, discussing the equipment and what it feels like to be wearing the kit and carrying the weapons which will be featured in the game.

Unable to resist the opportunity to take a closer look at the WWII tanks on display we headed over to the main area to walk around the huge variety of armour including, of course, the infamous Tiger 131, but also less famous designs such as the Matilda Mk. I, Comet Mk.I and the M18 Hellcat.

The closing display was once again spectacular. Despite the limited amount of space available, the reenactors excellently showed the German Army pushing back an American Expeditionary Force in Tunisia, before the British Army then rode to their rescue with a counter attack that ultimately led to the capture of the German forces.

It was another great event and we look forward to telling you more about “DevCon” and what we got up to in another update soon.
