Is it true that Heinrich Severloh inflicted over 1,000 casualties on Omaha Beach using a Karabiner 98 Kurz and his Maschinengewehr 42?

His claim is unverifiable. He did indeed claim this, and at least from his position and weaponry it is realistically possible, but we can never really know. What is most probable is that he did indeed inflict serious losses on American forces in his sector of the beach.
