I like the system in Red Orchestra 2 where you can essentially spawn on your squad leader (unless he is dead or if in enemy territory you spawn a bit back but still relatively close to that person)
The problem with SL spawns it that it turns into a boring waiting game for whoever is squad leading. He simply
has to start camping in a bush, hidden from enemies, if he wants to stay competitive and accomplish objectives... Not really leading anyone, but acting as a static spawner...
With Rally points, the SL can lead by example, and can have good awareness of the battle.
An idea that could add some tactic, would be to have "SL" respawns count separately, to simulate officers getting killed, and nobody being left to lead the men. For example, have 3 (number debatable) or so respawns for the squadleader on the rally, after which the squad becomes "shattered" and loses the ability to call in reinforcements via rally point.
That way, the SL can still take the risk of leading by example and has a few second chances if he gets killed, but he still has to be extra careful because if he dies too many times the squad will be shattered.
The counter could be on a timed reset, or it could reset when a new rally is placed, or both (of course, to place a new rally few men should be around the SL, that way he can't reset the counter alone). The counter limit could even increase when the squad captures an objective (
extra lives as a reward for successful leading)
