• Welcome to the Vanguard Community

These forums date back to the game's origins as the Crysis mod Traction Wars. Over the years the game and internet habits have evolved and discord.gg/vanguardww2 is now the principle home of the community.

The team continue to read and reply to posts here, but we can be contacted more quickly on Discord.

Hey guys,

New to the forum here. Came across this project and I am very interested. I would like to ask, why not merge with the Festung Europa team? It seems both are using the same engine, and are trying to accomplish the same thing (realism, normandy British vs Germans, vehicles etc), from a quick glance it looks like the only major difference is that Traction wars will be free. Wouldn't it be better to come together and make an even better game that comes out faster? I just find it odd that two small indie teams are basically making the same game (I know there will be some differences).

It's been suggested before but in a nutshell we're two different teams with different ethos' and aims. We've been around a long time but that doesn't mean we can't get the job done under our own steam and enjoy ourselves in the process :)

I really do not want to start fights here, but Traction Wars started WW2 first on the Cryengine (CE2 and CE3). Which their aim, was to make it free to everyone, yet strive to be realistic as possible. :)

Now Festung Europa, which is another WW2 game, came out of nowhere and wants to make money.

Like I said before, I'm not pointing fingers, but this is more or less true.

I understand. I just find the whole situation kind of strange. I wish both teams the best of luck as I will probably end up enjoying both games. My only concern is that two similar games coming out around the same time will split the community

We've been around a good while longer than FE has on CE3 :D From the start we've always approached this as a project created by gamers for gamers, and money is of no concern to us, it only complicates things. We'll strive to bring you lot a damn fine game in the end - but you'll have to be patient!

As Naga stated, a merge has been brought up a few times, but as similar as we may seem - we're totally different in approach and end goal. It may divide the player base a little but, the WW2 genre player tends to play more or less anything related to WW2 and not very many stick solely to one product. We'll hopefully do you proud :)

For some reason whenever I tried to sign up for Festung Europa a long time ago, it called me a "spammer" or something and denied my access... so no thanks

Festung looks descent but the team is the same team as the Darkest hour team, hense the shared forums! Though I do not think Festung will be able to compete with TW just by looking at the horrible draw distances on the concept art and the screenshots that have been taken. The game also isn't really using the correct vegetation type for the date that its set around, the vegetation should be much more bright and lush for the season its set in not dark and gloomy!

Every time I read "europa" I think of the Lotus Europa car. Anyway, welcome to the forum! It's a friendly place.

I wish the best of luck to them, I hope after 3 engine changes they’ll manage to settle into this one.
