Hi all,

Just wanted to share my thoughts on what makes these type of games get longevity and popularity.

I think in a way subconsciously many players still want to be storming beaches from the experience of watching saving private Ryan. Time and time again in darkest hour mod for red orchestra players would vote for Omaha beach and dog green. Now in rising storm for red orchestra 2 it is Iwo Jima. Played over and over and over.

Also this points out that the community doesn't want balance but realism and teaming up together to take tough defenses.

Also rising storm is more popular than red orchestra 2 with Germans vs Russians. Again maybe a throw back to saving private Ryan, the pacific etc.. And an emotional connection to the American side.

Hopefully players will embrace the Brits :) but these attacking tough defenses I have seen are extremely popular.

Iwo Jima?

Not the most played in my experience, Personally I hate that map especially when you get useless snipers who want to do their own thing and aren't taking out the fixed MG's.

I much prefer the jungle (saipan?) Where you can hide in the trees and get those unsuspecting Americans or play as the Americans and try to hold off the Japanese assault.

I love playing on Japanese servers because they actually get massed Banzai charges going its great.

The Pacific's cool, but I personally prefer the Eastern front maps.
You do have a point that popular culture and nationality play a role- there are many Russian servers with Eastern front maps and more American with the Pacific campaign...;)

The best way to make your game popular would probably be to get well known youtubers advertising it for you. Also just exciting people enough that they sell the game by word. Let people with particular audiences that would be fitting like Bluedrake42's or DevilDogGamer try the game and that would definitely get it going.

I remember one time, on a server on the Japanese side on the Hanto map. Our entire team waited at the spawn until the Commander shelled arty at the US-trenchline. Then the teamleaders threw smoke and the full team Banzai-charged. That was awesome. ^^

BTT:

It can help the game a lot if you just tell your friends. I remember the Kingdome Come: Deliverance Kickstartercampaing. I asked a friend if he had heard of the game, he said no, I sent him the link and one day later he pledged. So tell your friends, even if you think they wont like a game like this. ^^

Yea me and all my friends shared that one, Kingdom come looks great.

In RO2 for me nothing beats that feeling of getting a really good team, I sometimes have to go SL or TL (I prefer being the unnamed soldier personally) and when I do smoke is my best friend!
