Being vulnerable in mid air realistic though, eh? If they are paratroopers, parachuting down, while taking lots of gun fire that would be realistic. I mean, remember, both Axis/Allies para took all hell when they were dropping (well, dropping into a combat zone).

We could have them drop in a 'safe zone' that doesn't allow the enemy to pass a certain point. Plus if your team is smart and team work oriented, after you drop we could place a flag x number of meters away from the safe zone that the parachutists can only cap.

That's the sort of thing I had in mind. Giving the paratroops a nearby CP only they can cap and creating "safe zones" clear of AA that they can drop into.

We can't make it too easy though - afterall that's part of being a paratrooper.

2nd Lt. George Rice: Looks like you guys are going to be surrounded.
Richard Winters: We're paratroopers, Lieutenant. We're supposed to be surrounded.

Firebases would be a very useful thing, actually. It would also be a good way to allow them to become temporary HQs for spawning if people wanted to just get back in the action without parachuting in again.

How about the truck IS the FB? It is driven to the spot, unpacks with lean-tos and ****, maybe a radio mast. Then it can be repacked and moved up.

Resurrecting this old thread as it is a great concept.

If however a truck was used maybe have it so it couldn't be "un-packed" within X metres of the enemy and couldn't be "re-packed" within 10 minutes of being "un-packed" as well as taking sometime to make the transition between the two.To avoid the case where players use them as spawn-nukes.

If that was done however should it be automatic? or should 1 or maybe more players have to "build" the firebase?

I like the idea of the crate and stuff but how bout you could add animations and your character would grab suff of the vehicle to build the firebase. The only problem i see is that a team will make a million fire bases.

If those Cute *FireBases* are at a badly chosen spot, an ennemy can quickly set up an HMG just in front of it and get ready to fry 'em all like Chickens. *Spawnkill* they call it, there should be something against that!

There probably isn't anything more frustrating than wasting your time getting out of the free-kill zone

You'll be able to spawn from the regular spawnpoints as well, but a well-placed firebase could turn a battle over a capturepoint in your favor.

But obviously spawnkilling could be a quite devastating thing, haha.

What about instead of having a truck pull up you would dig a foxhole or trench system. It would require maybe a squad leader and 3 other teammates to "dig" for maybe 30 seconds or maybe longer and then your spawn point is constructed. You would spawn inside the foxhole which would provide cover and from the outside you wouldnt see players just pop into existence. To destroy it an engineer would need to throw a satchel charge into it which would collapse the walls from the explosion. By forcing players to dig a foxhole you could also make certain areas "like the middle of a town" safe from these spawnpoints so they would need to be further from the action in order to maintain the defender's tactical advantage.

However with this option I think there should be a 5 or 6 man spawn limit so after 6 players spawn there the foxhole or trench just becomes a defensive fortification.

What do people think about this?

I just hate the idea of having an endless spawn point where 50 people just pop out of some base. The infantry should be able to plan attacks and determine that they need a spawn point where they can continue an attack from. Having a limit means these points would change the complete tactical makeup of the map but would allow increased pressure on a certain objective for a short amount of time.

It would obviously require some balancing, and we've already discussed a "limit" for how many that can spawn from it before it shouldn't be usable any longer.

Not to mention a limit for how many you can have at a given time.

But the foxhole is a clever approach to this; perhaps a tad difficult to spot for the enemy team, but we'll see.
