Make the Zimmerit on German tanks work?

You can clearly see the Zimmerit.

Maybe it would be harder for infantry to plant a magnetic mine on tanks? Like, 30 seconds longer?

For those who are wondering Zimmerit was a non-magnetic coating used by the Germans - it's that raised wavy pattern you can see to the paintwork.

Make it work? Sure, easy to make it impossible to place a magnetic mine on zimmerit coated areas.

Too bad the western allies have no magnetic mines.

Basically, the Germans had magnetic mines that worked quite well, so they immediately took the logical step of "WHAT IF THE ALLIES USE THEM?!" and came up with a way to protect against it. The allies however never developed them due to the development of the PIAT and Bazooka, and so it sorta became dead weight on the tanks. Combined with the rumors that it would light on fire when struck by tank shells (it didn't actually, but rumors spread fast), and the Germans stopped putting it on tanks by mid 1944.

In the Demo video of the Churchill tank you can drive around in third person and have a very wide field of view. Perhaps we could change the driving so that the tanker can only look through a small rectangle in the tank and the turret turns slowly. To drive in third person the tanker should have to pop up their head which can then be shot by infantry who can steal the tank.

Welcome to the community @Tōgō Heihachirō

The Cromwell demo video was actually taken using the developer debug views which allow us to rotate around the tank freely for debugging. You need not worry - that sort of arcade camera will not be in the public release :)

naga, please also correct him in that you wont be able to "steal" tanks.. am I right in assuming so?

Yeah, stealing of tanks ain't gonna happen. There was a reason you had to train for months to just be able to drive the damn things. Now imagine having 0 training and not knowing the language everything is marked in.

How about stealing jeeps or kubelwagens?

That would be far more realistic, especially considering the Germans loved stealing jeeps. Otto Carius writes in Tigers in the Mud about, in 1945, actually driving through lines in his kubelwagon specifically to steal a jeep, leaving the kubel behind in its place. He was successful :p
