That's a tough one - there are so many. I would probably say it would be the superiority of the Tiger I - it was powerful yes but also broke down an awful lot.

Nice one Naga, the Tiger I is a common one.
I would say that a lot of people thought France surrendered pathetically and didn't put up a fight.

That the U.S. was a good guy. Even though we were on the Allies, we put the Japanese in camps, our soldiers often looted homes. Although, we're not really unique in that, just that it seems the U.S. involvement in WWII is a little over-glorified to me.

I think ( maybe becaus where I'm from ) that America on it's own won the war. Often forgetting the russians toke over Berlin first, and ofcourse D-Day wasn't just America but alsoo lots of other countries..

One of the most popular misconceptions that people think, is that all Germans believed in Nationalist Socialists ways during WWII.

That the SS were elite fighters.
That the Russian T-34 was a war winning tank.
That the German army was mechanized.
That the French Army had lousy tanks.
That the MG42 was inaccurate.
That the Poles barely resisted and were outdated militarily.
That the French were surrender monkeys.
That Italians couldn't fight.
That Patton was a good general.
That Rommel was a good general.
That the Wehrmacht was free of war crimes.
That the Waffen-SS were 'just soldiers.'

I can go on....

Do you think it's false to believe Jochen Peiper was a war-criminal?
I read a book about him, and a lot of it wasn't his fault.
He actually saved some Jewish inhabitants in Italy when they were going to be executed, and they took part to help him in the trial.
He never even saw the town "Malmedy".

Lemme put it this way:

Suppose you are president of a club. And in this club, the members occasionally bring people back to the club house and torture/murder them. You know fully of what is going on, and even join in occasionally or at least watch as it happens, sometimes encouraging but generally just not caring. Once or twice you tell them not to kill the person they bring back, but for the majority of the time, you let the person be killed.

You are just as guilty of the murders as the people thrusting the knives.

The misconception that the Russian T-28 and T-35 were useless piles of scrap.

To be fair, the T-35s spent most of 1941 breaking down. As for the T-28, it could be useful in infantry support, but armour was too week and the gun wasn't AT capable.
