For the sake of argument - go with a 2kx2k map = that's pretty standard for todays weapons :) - maybe not for FH2 though

Exactly, yes. For now, I'm just experimenting with the process of texturing. Overall I'm quite satisfied how it turned out, even though it's my first texture-weapon-job, and there are a few things need improving. It's still WIP though. ;)

I think the highest textures FH2 can hold is 2048x1024px, their Mauser K98 is just that. :)

If you are going for a WW1 Gew 98 (since you have the disc in the stock) then the whole bolt and chamber should be in chrome. Nice super bright white.
At the stock the ring for the rifle sling is of a completely wrong design, it is also missing the hook at the underside near the barrel where the sling could be attached.
Otherwise it looks okayish.

To add to this, you are also missing the sling attachment point in front of the trigger guard:

I have heard many stories of me going to an airfield nearby my house. Sadly it had been removed to build houses and I have no memories what so ever. So I decided to do some research and made a little map of its location for comparison.

Result:

The colored stripes were used for fitting the old image onto google maps

Good point. PostIMG doesn't appear to play nicely with our image caching from third-party websites. I shall investigate!

PS. Mentions only work if you use the full username of a member ;)

Thanks for notifying :) And I had full faith in you reading my post anyway

I have been on a break from mapping lately, mainly because of this (static modelling): :D

Funny how mapping has evolved right? Since video cards have gotten so much better than the old days you now need models to make even a basic map. Whereas in the old days you built all the structures ect out of bsp brushes. Course now all that cpu power is used for other things, like physics and such.

Welp, I got right to work on a Walther P38 as my first Crytek project. Just got the basic modeling done. Need to texture to add the real details to the piece. Also trying to figure out how my polies are appropriate in a weapon(first person perspective, not the same model as seen by other players) in a modern engine like Crytek 3. If I have a few to spare I'll actually model the cartridge indicator for the weapon(would be a nice immersive feature :) ) also once I'm sure I have the polies I might just model the takedown switch instead of using texturing magic.

Added: Also since this thread is a "what have you made" thread I figure it'd be fun to post a real world walther p38 project.

(It started out as a pile of rusty parts in a cigar box for $200)

(Cleaned up it all fit together, and fortunately headspace was correct. But safeties needed repair and the slide would litterally sieze 1/10th of an inch open with a new cartridge in the chamber after firing)

(Final product. Runs perfectly now, including fixed safeties. The top of the barrel is in the white since the action actually ruins the bluing there when it cycles anyway)

I wanted to post this last week but for fear of being all self-promotiony I let it pass. Until now, that is.

It is a re-worked version of 'Where Are You', the remembrance track from last year, because it meant so much I felt some parts needed changing.

*Imagines calgoblin as a chubby guy enjoying a fudgcicle*

Nah, I've just a giant orange ball emanating from my face. Gives Apples drawing more meaning.
